Frida Kahlo - Art Journal Journey

Hi, after my Mother's death I haven't really felt like doing much and to tell you the truth have felt rather anti-social which isn't like me.  Drawing strength from my family has been helpful with the healing, especially from my youngest daughter Wendy who has been an absolute rock.  We laughed and cried together.  In the midst of all this I had my hair chopped off, which was strangely liberating to have very short hair (for the first time ever).  Good news is,  have now been signed off by both my consultants and my summer cold has almost gone........so onwards and upwards.....

Art Journal Journey subject this month is Frida Kahlo chosen by Valerie-Jael whom many of you know.

Worked in Oil Pastels and coloured pencils

Worded in Oil Pastels and highlighted with Pic Monkey
Two very different interpretations of Frida Kahlo, reflecting the good and hard times this artist suffered.

Will show these pages at Paint Party Friday also.

I hope you like these interpretations and thank you so much for sticking by me.  Will be popping by your blogs very soon.  Take care of yourselves, hugs Annette xx

These are both wonderful, Nettie. I am especially drawn to the first one, because it truly captures the Mexican spirit that she was so proud of. Blessings!

Hi Netty!
Your versions of Frida are wonderful and so artsy! I have seen a few of your pieces and love your creations. I have joined your lovely follower so that i can get updates on your crafty journey!
I'm sorry to hear about your mum passing. god bless her soul! My beloved Grandma passed away recently and she was like my second mum. It's sad, but she was suffering after her 4th stroke and hopefully she's in a better place now. I find that creating art is rather therapeutic for me so it might work for you too... time's a good healer too.
Don't stop crafting now... the craft world would miss your talent! ;)

I like both Fridas, Nettie. They show the range of emotions that woman must have had. Losing your mother was a big shock, as you must have felt very close to her. It is like losing some part of yourself. I know that after 8 months of widowhood, I am now beginning to feel that I am living a new now, a life separate from the wonderful 56 year marriage we lived. But it has taken all this time. So hang in there and keep up with your hobbies. Having something to do keeps away the depression.

I can well imagine that things came to a standstill in the wake of your mother's death, Annette - I'm happy to hear that your daughter has been such a support. And the wider circle of friends will be there for you when you're ready to be with them.

I'm also happy that the Frida theme inspired you to get out the paints again - I think both portraits are beautiful. Wonderful work.
