Spreading the Love

Hi, Happy Valentines Day to you all, hope you have a great day.  Hubby and I will celebrate later as we have to take Mum to Physio first and she doesn't live nearby so it will be a few hours later than normal.  Just in case you didn't know I love painting and drawing so am spreading the love of Art at Paint Party Friday.

'Aster' - painted in Acrylics on Canvas Board
Think this will be my last painting of Flowers for the moment as now have to concentrate on Water and am finding it difficult.  At the moment have two Canvas Boards on the go where am attempting to capture Water and will share them next week all being well.

Apart from the two Canvas Boards am working on a Canvas which will hopefully show rain and am showing a snippet of it, but please bear in mind its very much work in progress.........

On Wednesday we had to go to Hospital for my hubby to have some extensive heart tests so I had an hour and a half to kill.  Took myself to the Hospital Cafe for a Coffee and took my sketchbook out and attempted to draw some of the people in there....... brave or stupid ..... not sure which.  But when we got home showed hubby my attempts and he laughed and said it was a wonder you didn't get thrown out..........

I know they are not very good but not too bad for a first attempt  considering I was shaking with nerves and the people wouldn't sit still..........lol

Thats it from me.  Thank you for visiting me and wishing you a lovely weekend.  Take care of yourself, hugs Annette xx

I usually have a sketchbook in my bag for just this reason. It so helps kill the time and take your mind off things. Well done you! Good luck to your hubby too.

I am looking forward to your rain and water paintings; what I see until now is very promising! :-)

And sketching is so useful training of your eye. You are catching the scenery and atmosphere perfectly!

I love watching your work develop and grow and think your drawings are fab... and the flower... wasn't it just a few posts ago you were saying you couldn't paint flowers... think that has to be revised now!!!

Beautiful flower and the couple with umbrella. The sketch is interesting I wonder if anyone would recognize each other :)
I wish your husband a lot of health.

The Aster looks lovely, and I already love the couple in the rain - I'd be terrified of trying to capture water, but I can already feel the weather in the shimmer of light you've captured. So impressed that you're prepared to pursue your adventures in public - a great first go at capturing those around you! Hope all well with your husband.

Netty, I am proud of you! I think we are all inspired to do the life sketches since we have seen the wonderful work of Lynn Cohen, Tracey Fletcher King and Nora MacPhail. You did a great job, and I am sure it took away the constant worry for your husband for a minute here and there. Your flower is wonderful, too.

Great stuff and am loving those hospital sketches!!

Astrid Maclean said...

Oh, I meant to say still, that couple in the rain looks amazing! I adore the way they hug each other, the whole movement and gesture (the back of their feet etc. etc.) is very, very clever!! Netty all your practice is paying off big time! I can see this is the beginning of a master piece!

Abela said...

I love the love under the parguas, the subject is gorgeous. Saludos

Netty said...

thank you Gloria. I was encouraged by the artists you mentioned to do this and it certainly helped make the time pass quicker and helped with the concerns for my dear hubby, x

oh Annette!!! your paintings are amazing....I love your work...you have been on a roll girl and I love that you now have a dedicated blog for these

Faye said...

Enormously gorgeous, Netty! I hope you don't stop flowers for long. You are so good at them. Your sketching at the hospital is great. Reminds me of the one I did at the hospital a few months ago. It turned out pretty good, but I felt so guilty sketching someone. I tried to act like I wasn't drawing the person I was! Your dh's comment sounds like a typical male not into painting or drawing.

lovely work and WIP this week Netty!

I like that beautiful flower full of passion and delicacy, excellent colors.

Good for you for taking your sketch book. I'm not sure I'd have had the sense to do that. Its magical how dropping into sketching and art can calm the nerves and bring peace to the soul. Hospital situations are stressful even if just routine visit. hoping the results are good

Arnoldo L. Romero, MLA said...

I like both paintings, but my favorite one is the one of the couple in the rain. As to the sketches, I think they're great. Blessings!

Hi Netty. Just the word "hospital" makes me sick. :) Wow, your sketches are great. You did good. Your flower is beautiful. Thank you.

Silke Powers said...

Dear Netty! Your paintings and your sketches are beautiful! I find sketching people really, really hard and don't do enough of it! I hope your hubby is doing alright! And you as well!! Love, Silke

Three very different paintings, and I like them all. Your aster is beautiful with its soft colors. The rain picture probably is my favorite with its vibrant bold colors. Good for you to draw people in the cafe - I'd never dare that, but I am not good in drawing people anyway. I like what you did.
I hope that your hubby is okay after all his heart tests?

these are sooo good! I really like the couple in the rain! The colors are so pretty, and I can't wait to see it finished!

Sending warm wishes for the good health of family!!

Your flower painting is terrific, I love the texture.

But let me say bravo for braving drawing in public! If this was a first attempt I'd say you are on your way! I am sure you and everyone in that hospital cafe were tense and worried. I see it in your capture of your people at their tables, keep going, you'll be more and more comfortable with it with each new drawing! I know!! ;-)))

Kristin said...

I agree with Lynn - it's so cool that you took your sketchbook and went for it - I love the results! And your flower is so pretty in pink. Much love and well wishes for you and your hubby - I hope he's feeling well :) xoxo!

Beautiful paintings - I love the umbrella painting already!! Silly me, I've never thought of sketching to pass the time. I'll have to cart some supplies around in the car in future!

Netty, one of the things I love most about your blog is your willingness to show your process. How brave of you to go for it and sketch in public and how brave of you to share it with the world! I absolutely love your drawings as well as your pretty flower and that bright beginning of your rain canvas. Your work is so varied and all so very inspiring! Healing thoughts and prayers for your hubby. - janice

As you know, I'm a big fan of all your work. The flower is just lovely!!! My fav is the walking in the rain. Loving the vibrant colors. I think there's nothing wrong with your sketch. Lovingly educate your dear hubby that it is a "sketch", that's why it's called a "sketch"....to record your surroundings in a quick manner....quick being the key word. It's not a finished painting. ♥ You did a fab job and overcame your fear which is HUGE!! Blessings to you and your hubby...prayers for his good health! Hugs ~Rhonda

It's always intimidating at first. You did a beautiful job. xox

Lovely paintings, and congrats on the sketches! they turned out well, and you're right...it's not easy to draw people when they're moving!! Hope all is well with the tests and therapy and such...great post!

The flower is lovely and I'm very intrigued to see how the water paintings progress. i like the rain one already-the colours and composition are great. i think it's brave to sketch in public-i definitely wouldn't have the nerve-i don't even like drawing or painting at home if people are in the same room!
