Painting Flowers for Paint Party Friday

Hi, I got a bit mixed up about last weeks lesson, thought it was painting petals, leaves and such like when in fact it was using masking fluid.  We were told to paint a flower using masking fluid..........never used the stuff before and got in a right old mess.............am sure its something you need to practice with as had terrible trouble getting the darn stuff off.   As you all know I have never drawn or painted flowers so practice was needed.  Borrowed a book from our local library called 'The Acrylic Flower Painter's A to Z' by Lexi Sundell, its a fab book with brilliant instructions, especially for a newbee like me.

The paintings below have been painted with Acrylics on Canvas Boards and turned out a lot better than I thought they would.

Rose Mallow

and of course I had to play with it............

Morning Glory
Yep am now enjoying painting flowers and have another one in progress which will show you next week if it turns out OK.  The flower which was painted in class with the masking fluid has a huge hole in it where I rubbed too hard on the paper getting the fluid off...........so its in the bin now with the rest of my mess ups....

It has been terrific to have January just to paint and its certainly something I will do again.

Wishing you all a terrific weekend, take care of yourselves and thank you so much for dropping by and giving me your support.  Hugs Annette xx

The way you were talking last week, you made it sound as if flowers were not your thing, but these are so gorgeous--definitely your thing!

Absolutely gorgeous painting Netty x

That marshmallow in particular is stunning. I love the glow and translucence of the colours.

they were very definitely NOT my thing Trisha, to tell the truth was scared stiff of drawing and painting them, so out of my comfort zone. But my art tutor refuses to understand the word 'can't' and am so glad I had a go. xx

Gorgeous flower painting, love the alternative ways you used it.

NO! NO! NO!, Netty! Do not throw out anything. Your painting probably had corners or edges that could be used in a wonderful collage. I hope you haven't emptied the trash yet. When I don't like something I've made on paper, I salvage parts of it to go either on a collage or a greetings card.

These two paintings are exquisite. I think this is definitely one of your niches. You are a super flower painter. Wow!

I have a bottle of masking fluid and hate it! Once I used it on paper and it peeled off the paper! Netty, these are gorgeous and have the flow of oils! Love these flowers and you did a spectacular job! Big Hugs!

Netty said...

thank you for the great encouragement it has really boosted my confidence as I was rather unsure whether to show these flowers on here, thanking you again. Hugs Annette x

Well done, Netty! That hibiscus is simply amazing - so striking against the dark back ground. Masking fluid does have a learning curve... and some brands are simply infuriating... but once hooked on it, it is hard to live/paint without it:-)

What a gorgeous hibiscus! Amazing details, and the softness is so present! You are fantastic!

I think you're telling fibs, surely these are not *really* the first flowers you've ever painted? They are outstanding! Both are beautiful and the morning glory ... WOW!

I like a very delicate composition, I love that flower, magic.

Really Annette, I have to smile a bit, because you say you were not sure, if you should show these flowers. The hibiscus is painted in a great perspective that really shows the dimension of the flower. There is so much depth in the painting. The centre of the other flower, which I'm not sure to know, has such a fine centre, done beautifully with the contrast of dark and light and the yellow - blue/violet.

Beautiful paintings and I'm looking forward to seeing more of your flowers! :-)

Happy PPF!

Ilona xx

You did a great job on this flower and I really like Sweet Beth below, too. I missed last week so I'm glad I got a chance to see it this week. I've used making fluid with watercolor and it is always a pain to use. I don't like it at all! I can't imagine why you'd need it for acrylics, though. Maybe the teacher just wanted to torture you with it! :)

Oh yes, flowers are definitely a part of you-these are gorgeous!!!

I love the different aspects of the flower. Morning Glory's are my fave. As a child my granddaddy always planted them and they climbed up the house. I'll never forget. Thanks for the memories of so long ago. Blessings, Janet PPF

Lovely flower...maybe you should fish that other one out of the trash and use it in a collage. then the hole wouldn't matter as you would use pieces of it. that's what I do with things that don't work out so well. enjoyed your paintings of faces too!
